what i'm really posting about here is saving real, actual lives by donating blood. the community blood bank is teaming up with erieblogs.com to have a little old fashioned "battle of the bloggers" blood drive. during the week of july 23rd through july 27th, local bloggers are encouraging everyone in the area to go donate blood.
why donate blood? to save lives! did you know that from just one unit of blood, it can save up to 3 different peoples' lives?
why donate blood during that week? to get free stuff! two huge gift baskets are going to be given away. these gift baskets include items such as gift certificates, gas cards, and much more stuff. plus, if you are a fan of the erie art museum and like the frogs and fish around town, you definitely need to get your booty down there and donate. a little birdie told me there's a sweet package from the erie art museum in one of these giveaways!
what do i need to do? go down to the community blood bank at 2646 peach street and sign up! all you need is a valid id and an arm full of blood. when you sign up, write down that you heard about it at ronshouse.com. i'll explain more about that in a bit.

let's get personal... now i've been lucky in my life to not need blood from the many fine folks who donate, but i still donate every chance i get. i usually make it out 4 to 5 times a year and have gotten a few free t-shirts from them and some other goodies too. my favorite part is the free snacks when you're done. i'm usually in and out within a half hour.
but the real reason i donate? it's easy as pie! i've got o-negative blood, which means anyone and their mother can use my blood. i'm not blessed with lots of money to donate to charities, but i am blessed with some sweet sweet blood that can help people. i'm fine with having a needle poked in my arm for a few minutes if it saves someone's life. i'll leave the running into burning buildings and kicking knives and guns out of people's hands to the experts like the erie fire department and chuck norris.
